Beware: not all converted Kangoos are the same
Most people looking for a converted wheelchair passenger vehicle will come across the popular Renault Kangoo at some point in their search. Converted Kangoos look deceptively similar at first glance, but many have not been tested for safety, may not be fully approved by Renault and are not even supported by a valid warranty.
Gowrings Mobility is at the forefront of a Campaign for Higher Standards, which aims to raise the issue of safety and testing of vehicles for customers’ benefit. The objectives
Are:
• All Kangoos should come with guaranteed support from every Renault dealer in the country by achieving the prestigious Renault Accord accreditation
• Customers should have the assurance of the highest levels of safety testing. Kangoo testing to Single Vehicle Approval is NOT adequate; it should be tested to the more stringent Low Volume Type Approval standards, where all the crucial areas to do with the conversion are pull or dynamically tested, such as the new seats, wheelchair restraints and seatbelts.
• Customers should be entitled to free, no obligation home demonstrations, wherever they live in the UK, and not dependent on postcode
• Where possible, customers should expect next-day delivery of standard Kangoo conversion parts to their local dealer
• Customers should be offered a dedicated after sales and technical support service, ensuring that they are back on the road quickly and efficiently
• Kangoos should come with a 3-year conversion warranty alongside the 3-year manufacturer warranty for added peace of mind
