Safe Winter Driving

During the winter months, it is vital to check that your vehicle is well maintained and serviced. Follow our simple steps for a trouble-free season of car journeys.

Plan ahead

You should keep the lights, windows and mirrors clean and free from ice and snow.

Make sure your windscreen wipers and lights are in good working order.

Check that tyres have plenty of tread depth and are maintained at the correct pressure.

Check the weather forecast and traffic reports for road conditions. You can then consider alternative routes, and allow extra time for your journey.

Carry warm clothing, blankets, hot drinks, a torch, a shovel, and suitable footwear.

During your journey

Use dipped headlights in poor conditions.

Reduce speed in bad weather.

Increase stopping distances.

Avoid sudden acceleration and braking.

Take breaks every two or three hours.

Tips on avoiding car crime

Always remove your keys when leaving your car, even when buying petrol.

Don’t leave any valuable items on view.

Remove your stereo front face (where possible).

Protect your keys. Don’t leave them near door or windows, even at home.

Always park in a well-lit area.

Most of our vehicles come with an immobiliser, so remember to activate it!

Happy and safe motoring!
